Bajaj Auto is getting ready to launch the Chetak electric scooter in Nagpur. The company announced the news on its social media accounts lately, and reservations for the service will begin soon. Customers in Nagpur can register for the Chetak on the company’s website in the meanwhile. The Bajaj Chetak is now available in Pune and Bengaluru, with the firm planning to expand its distribution to 22 cities by 2022. Chennai and Hyderabad are among the additional locations where the Chetak scooter will be available shortly, according to the firm.
The Bajaj Chetak is being offered in bursts, with bookings only available for a limited time and in restricted quantities. The last time Bajaj took bookings for the scooter was in April of this year, and the order books were completely filled in only two days. The Chetak was priced at 1.42 lakh for the Urbane variation and 1.44 lakh for the Premium variant at the time (all prices, ex-showroom). Under the redesigned FAME II subsidy, prices are expected to be revised. However, the firm has not yet revealed the model’s new costs.
The 3.8 kW PMS motor in the Bajaj Chetak produces around 5 horsepower and 16.2 Nm of peak torque. The engine is powered by a 3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers an 80-kilometer range on a single charge, with a range of up to 95 kilometres in Eco mode. The scooter’s peak speed is about 70 kilometres per hour. The Chetak may be charged using a regular three-pin charging socket, and a full charge takes around six to eight hours. It is not equipped with a fast charger.
With its all-metal body, LED lighting, lighted switchgear, sequential turn indicators, Bluetooth-enabled instrument console, and more, the Chetak is remarkable in terms of features. In this segment, the Chetak is up against the TVS iQube, Ather 450X, and the forthcoming Ola electric scooter.
