MG Motors has announced a collaboration with Jio, India’s biggest digital services provider, in the Internet of Things (IOT) market. The business also revealed that its forthcoming mid-sized SUV will be the first to use Jio’s IoT technologies to power its IT systems. The MG Astor is said to be the name of the forthcoming mid-sized SUV, which will be a petrol version of the ZS EV.
Jio would back automobile solutions that provide a variety of consumer and business services. The MG Astor purchasers would “benefit from Jio’s extensive internet outreach, as well as the greatest quality connection, not only in metros but also in small villages and rural areas,” according to the firm.
Hardware, software, and connection are all part of Jio’s new-age connected automobile technology. This allows consumers to have on-the-go access to trendy infotainment and real-time telemetry. “Technology and innovation are leading the connected car area in the automobile industry,” Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director, MG Motor India, said of the cooperation. The present trend is shifting toward software-driven gadgets, and our current IoT cooperation with a digital innovator like Jio is a step toward MG Motor being a tech leader in the automotive sector. This collaboration will ensure that our upcoming mid-sized connected SUV streamlines the driving experience while also ensuring technology-assisted safety.”
What To Expect?
It’s essentially a facelifted version of the ZS SUV, which is already available in a few international countries. The new SUV, internally known as the Model K, will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq. The SUV is anticipated to cost between Rs 10 and Rs 17 lakh.
The SUV has been sighted on Indian highways several times. To keep things new in the market, the spy pictures indicate that the petrol model has minor design modifications, especially at the front. It will have a larger front grille, a redesigned bumper, and new headlamps and taillights. The general profile, however, will be identical to the electric variant.
A bigger touchscreen entertainment system and fresh upholstery will also be installed in the cabin. A huge panoramic sunroof, automatic air conditioning, a multi-function steering wheel, and other features will be included in the SUV. The MG Astor is expected to be the first vehicle in its class to include ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance System).
It will be available with either a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder normally aspirated petrol or a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The normally aspirated petrol engine will generate about 120bhp and 150Nm of torque, while the turbocharged engine will generate 163bhp and 230Nm of torque. There will be manual and automatic transmission options available.
